The latest music trends of the new millennium seem to
have no effect on this group. They seem to be growing
in popularity more and more each year. Their fan club
has grown to more than a thousand. They have
opened shows for Merle Haggard, Juice Newton,
Michael Martin Murphey, Lacy J.
Dalton and Beans Sousa.
They have been named Nevada's number one western band
by governor Kenny C. Guinn. David John has been
gaining recognition for his song writing and has
been nominated by the W.M.A. as song writer of
the year,2000. Entertainer of the year, 2001.
In 1999
David John and The Comstock Cowboys were invited by country star Lacy
J. Dalton to participate in the
Shop Records project, "Wild
Horse Crossing". The band submitted the song "Outlaw"
to the album which to this
day gets airplay in many parts of the U.S.
Singer
Songwriter David John's career has spanned from Nashville to L.A.
His rich baritone voice is ideal for the
music he loves best, songs of the cowboy. His songs are a
blending of new and old; and tell of life, death,
horses, and cowboys; the way things were, and the way things
should be. The skill of his performance
has few rivals, as he delivers his songs from the heart. Dave
plays a fine acoustic guitar, and creates excitement
when he grabs his fiddle.
In early
1998, David John called together his band of merry cowboys, and
started working on a musical
stage production."Calico", as the play
is named, is a musical melodrama based on the end of the cattle
drives with
fourteen original songs and a script written by David John. After
the music was arranged, a group of very talented
friends were called in to fill in the acting parts for the show.
There was just one thing missing: direction.
There
just happen to be a veteran actress with television, stage, and
screen experience living in close proximity.
Melody Patterson (Wrangler Jane) was contacted and asked to
direct the play. After listening to the songs and
picturing the scenes, melody agreed to attempt to turn this bunch
of misfits into a production company.
After
many long hours of hard work by many people, Calico"was
born. "Calico" has been performed over a
dozen times now to the enthusiastic audiences in Nevada and
California. Standing ovations and great
reviews have been received for each performance.
David
John and the Comstock Cowboys now have three wonderful
CD's available at Shop Records, including
"Songs of the Old West" , "Calico" and
